How To Cook A Porterhouse Steak

A Porterhouse steak is a large, flavorful cut of meat that can be cooked in a variety of ways. Whether you’re grilling, pan-searing, or baking, a Porterhouse steak is sure to please. Here are the steps to cook a Porterhouse steak to perfection.

Step 1: Choose Your Steak

When selecting a Porterhouse steak, look for a cut that is at least 1-inch thick. Also, look for a steak that has a nice, even marbling of fat throughout. This will ensure that your steak is juicy and flavorful.

Step 2: Season Your Steak

Once you have chosen your steak, season it liberally with salt and pepper on both sides. If you want to add additional flavor, you can also use garlic powder, onion powder, and other seasonings.

Step 3: Prepare Your Pan

If you are pan-searing your steak, make sure your pan is hot before you add the steak. Heat the pan over medium-high heat and then add a few tablespoons of oil, such as olive oil or canola oil. Swirl the oil around the pan to ensure even heating.

Step 4: Cook Your Steak

Once your pan is hot, add the steak to the pan. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steak. If you are grilling, the steak should take about the same amount of time.

Step 5: Check For Doneness

Once the steak has cooked for the desired amount of time, it’s time to check for doneness. Insert a thermometer into the thickest part of the steak and check the temperature. Rare steak should read 125-130 degrees, medium rare should read 135-140 degrees, and medium should read 145-150 degrees.

Step 6: Let The Steak Rest

Once the steak has reached the desired temperature, remove it from the heat and let it rest for at least five minutes. This will ensure that the steak’s juices have time to redistribute throughout the steak.

Step 7: Enjoy!

Your steak is now ready to enjoy! Serve with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, a salad, or roasted vegetables. Enjoy!
