Basmati rice is a fragrant, long-grain rice that is widely used in Indian, Middle Eastern, and Persian cuisines. It is considered one of the highest quality rices and has a distinct nutty flavor and texture. It is also low in fat and is a great source of carbohydrates and fiber. To ensure that you have perfect fluffy basmati rice every time, follow these easy steps.

Step 1: Measure the Rice and Water

The general rule for cooking basmati rice is 1 cup of basmati rice to 1.5 cups of water. For more flavorful rice, you can also add a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of butter or ghee (clarified butter).

Step 2: Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve with cold water until the water runs clear. This will remove any extra starch from the rice and help make it light and fluffy.

Step 3: Cook the Rice

Add the rinsed basmati rice to a medium-sized pot with a lid. Pour the measured water and salt (if desired) over the rice, and stir to combine. Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over high heat. When the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Do not remove the lid during the cooking process.

Step 4: Fluff the Rice and Serve

Once the rice has cooked for 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. This will allow the grains to absorb any remaining moisture. After 10 minutes, fluff the rice with a fork and serve. Enjoy!
