How To Cook A Picnic Ham

All you need to know about: How To Cook A Picnic Ham.

Step 1: Preparing Your Ham

Choosing the right ham is the most important step in making your picnic ham. Look for a ham that is labeled “fully cooked”, as this will require less time in the oven. If you can find a ham that is labeled “hickory smoked”, it will add extra flavor to your dish. Once you have your ham, measure the size to determine the amount of time it will need to cook.

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F. Place the oven rack in the middle so that the ham is placed in the center of the oven for even cooking.

Step 3: Preparing the Ham

Place the ham on a baking sheet then, if desired, cut shallow slits in the top of the ham. This will help to infuse the flavors of any glaze you may want to add. Place a meat thermometer into the center of the ham.

Step 4: Cooking the Ham

Bake the ham in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes per pound. Periodically check the temperature of the ham with the thermometer. When the internal temperature reaches 140°F, the ham is done.

Step 5: Finishing the Ham

When the ham is finished cooking, remove it from the oven and brush with a glaze, if desired. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your picnic ham and all of its delicious flavors!
