1 whole country ham

1 quart of water

1 onion, cut into wedges

1 teaspoon of black peppercorns

1 teaspoon of dried thyme

1 bay leaf


1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. Place the ham in a large roasting pan, fat side up.

3. Add the water, onion, peppercorns, thyme, and bay leaf to the pan.

4. Cover the pan with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours.

5. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional hour or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

6. Let the ham rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips & Tricks:

1. Country ham is a cured ham that is often salty, so it may not need to be cooked for the full 3 hours. Start checking the internal temperature after 2 hours to see if it is done.

2. If the ham is too salty for your taste, soak it in cold water for 8-12 hours before cooking.

3. Save the cooking liquid to make a delicious country ham gravy.
