How To Cook With Cast Iron

All you need to know about: How To Cook With Cast Iron.

Step 1: Preheat the Pan

Before you start cooking with your cast-iron skillet, you must preheat it. Preheating your skillet helps to ensure that your food won’t stick, and that you’ll get the best possible results. Place your skillet over medium-high heat and let it heat up for about 5 minutes, or until it’s hot to the touch. Once it’s preheated, you can add the oil or butter of your choice.

Step 2: Add the Oil or Butter

Once the skillet is preheated, add the oil or butter of your choice. For best results, use an oil with a high smoke point, such as canola or vegetable oil, or clarified butter. Heat the oil or butter until it’s shimmering, but not smoking.

Step 3: Add the Food

Once the oil or butter is hot, add the food you’re cooking. Make sure to spread it out evenly in the skillet, so that it cooks evenly. You may need to adjust the temperature of the skillet as you cook, depending on the food you’re cooking.

Step 4: Flip the Food

When one side of the food is cooked, use a spatula to carefully flip it over. If the food is sticking, use a metal spatula or a pair of tongs to help release it from the skillet.

Step 5: Remove the Food

Once both sides of the food are cooked, remove it from the skillet. Place it on a plate or cutting board and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Step 6: Clean the Skillet

Once the food is cooked and removed from the skillet, it’s time to clean it. To clean the skillet, use a damp cloth or paper towel and wipe away any excess oil or food particles. If there are stubborn bits of food stuck to the skillet, use a metal spatula or a coarse salt scrub to remove them. Once the skillet is clean, you can add a thin layer of oil to help protect and season the skillet.
