How to Cook Sprouts

Sprouts are a nutritious and delicious side dish that can be prepared in a variety of ways. Whether you’re cooking up a batch of Brussels sprouts or broccoli sprouts, they’re sure to make a tasty addition to your meal. Here’s how to cook sprouts in the oven, on the stovetop, and in the microwave.

Oven-Roasted Sprouts

Oven-roasting is a great way to bring out the nutty flavor in sprouts. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Place the sprouts on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle on salt and pepper and any other seasonings you’d like. Roast for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the sprouts are golden brown and tender.

Stovetop-Cooked Sprouts

Stovetop-cooked sprouts make a great side dish. Start by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and the sprouts. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a tablespoon of butter and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the sprouts are tender.

Microwave-Cooked Sprouts

If you’re short on time, microwave-cooking is a great way to prepare sprouts. Place the sprouts in a microwave-safe dish and add a tablespoon of water. Cover the dish with a lid or plastic wrap. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes or until the sprouts are tender. Season with salt, pepper, and butter, if desired.
