Ingredients

– 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup water

Instructions

1. Drain and rinse the beans.

2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

3. Add the onion and cook for 4 minutes or until softened.

4. Add the garlic powder, cumin, chili powder and salt and cook for 1 minute.

5. Add the beans and the water and cook for 8 minutes or until the beans are softened and the liquid is absorbed.

6. Use a potato masher or the back of a large spoon to mash the beans.

7. Cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the beans are thick and creamy.

8. Serve hot.
