1 fresh octopus

1 bay leaf

1 teaspoon of black pepper corns

1 teaspoon of whole allspice

2 cloves of garlic

1/4 cup of olive oil

2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon of sea salt


1. Start by cleaning the octopus. Rinse it under cold running water and discard any offal or discolored parts.

2. Place the octopus in a large pot and fill with enough cold water to cover the octopus by at least 2 inches.

3. Add the bay leaf, black pepper corns, allspice, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.

4. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour.

5. Once the octopus is cooked through, remove it from the pot and set aside to cool.

6. Once cool enough to handle, cut the octopus into bite-sized pieces.


Octopus can be served hot or cold. It is delicious with a salad or as part of an antipasto platter. It can also be grilled, baked, or sautéed. Enjoy!
