Preparing the Duck

Before you can cook the duck in the oven, you need to prepare it. Start by removing any excess fat from the duck, as well as any feathers. Rinse the duck under cold water, then pat it dry with paper towels. Place the duck in a roasting pan and season to taste.

Cooking the Duck

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the roasting pan with the duck inside the oven and cook for approximately 1 1/2 hours. If you are using a meat thermometer, the internal temperature of the duck should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Finishing the Duck

Once the duck has cooked through, you can either serve it immediately or finish it with a glaze. To make a glaze, combine equal parts honey and orange juice, and brush it over the duck. Place the duck back in the oven and cook for an additional 10 minutes. When the glaze is golden and bubbly, remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
