How To Cook Chitterlings

Chitterlings, also known as chitlins, are a traditional southern dish made from pig intestines. Though they may seem intimidating to cook, they’re actually quite easy to make. With the right ingredients and a few simple steps, you’ll be able to make a delicious chitterling dish that your family and friends will be sure to love.

Ingredients

– 2 pounds of fresh chitterlings
– 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
– 1 large onion, diced
– 1 bell pepper, diced
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon of paprika
– 1 teaspoon of chili powder
– 1 teaspoon of cumin
– ½ teaspoon of salt
– ¼ teaspoon of black pepper
– 1 teaspoon of hot sauce
– 1 cup of chicken broth

Instructions

1. Begin by rinsing the chitterlings in cold water. Clean them thoroughly and make sure to remove any debris or fat that may be on the chitterlings.

2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

3. Add the paprika, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and hot sauce to the pot. Stir until everything is evenly combined and cook for about 2 minutes.

4. Add the chitterlings and chicken broth to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

5. Once the chitterlings are tender, turn off the heat and serve with your favorite sides. Enjoy!
