How To Cook A Frozen Turkey

All you need to know about: How To Cook A Frozen Turkey.

Step 1: Thawing the Turkey

The first step to cooking a frozen turkey is to thaw it out. To do this, you need to plan ahead. Place the frozen turkey in the refrigerator 24 hours before you plan to cook it. Allow approximately 5 hours per pound to thaw the bird. So, if you are cooking a 14 pound turkey, it will take 70 hours, or just under 3 days, to thaw it out.

Step 2: Prepping the Turkey

Once the turkey is thawed out, it’s time to prep it for cooking. Start by taking it out of the package and rinsing it off in the sink. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and remove any giblets or neck from the cavity. Place the turkey on a roasting pan or baking sheet and season it with your favorite herbs and spices.

Step 3: Roasting the Turkey

Once the turkey is prepped, it’s time to cook. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the turkey in the oven and roast it for approximately 20 minutes per pound. For a 14 pound turkey, you should roast it for approximately four and a half hours.

Step 4: Checking for Doneness

When the turkey is nearly done, it’s important to check for doneness. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast and thigh. When the thermometer reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit in both areas, the turkey is done cooking.

Step 5: Letting the Turkey Rest

Once the turkey is done cooking, take it out of the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the turkey and make it more moist and flavorful.
