How To Cook Tomahawk Steak
Tomahawk steak is a cut of beef ribeye that has been attached to the rib bone. The bone resembles a tomahawk axe and is kept on to enhance the presentation and flavor of the steak. Tomahawk steak is a delicious cut of beef that is easy to cook with the right technique. Here is how to cook it.
Step 1: Prepare The Steak
Take the steak out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature for about an hour. This will help ensure even cooking. Pat the steak dry with paper towels and season with Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Step 2: Heat The Grill
Heat your grill to a high heat, about 500-550°F (260-288°C). If you are using a charcoal grill, make sure the coals are hot and spread evenly.
Step 3: Grill The Steak
Place the steak on the hot grill and sear each side for 3-4 minutes, or until the steak has a nice golden-brown crust. Flip the steak and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
Step 4: Move The Steak To A Lower Heat
Once the steak is seared, move it to a cooler part of the grill. Close the lid and cook the steak for 6-8 minutes, flipping it halfway through. The steaks should reach an internal temperature of 125°F (52°C) for a medium-rare steak.
Step 5: Rest The Steak
Once the steak is cooked to the desired temperature, take it off the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes. This allows the steak to reabsorb its juices, which will make it even more flavorful.
Step 6: Enjoy!
Once the steak has rested, it’s ready to be served. Enjoy your delicious tomahawk steak with your favorite sides.
