How to Cook Steak in a Cast Iron Pan

Preparing the Steak

Choose a steak according to your preference. You can use any type of steak, such as rib-eye, top sirloin, T-bone, or filet mignon. It is best to select steaks that are at least 1 inch thick.

If the steak has been stored in the refrigerator, place it on a plate and allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This will help the steak cook more evenly.

Pat the steak dry with a paper towel. This will help the steak to brown more quickly and evenly.

Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides. You can also use other herbs and spices to add flavor to the steak.

Cooking the Steak

Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes. You can also use a grill pan or other heavy-duty skillet.

Once the skillet is hot, add a few tablespoons of oil or butter. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom with the oil.

Place the steak in the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes. Flip the steak and cook the other side for 4-5 minutes.

Reduce the heat to medium and continue to cook the steak for an additional 3-4 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.

Serving the Steak

Once the steak has finished cooking, transfer it to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes. This will allow the steak to finish cooking and the juices to redistribute throughout the steak.

Slice the steak against the grain and serve. Enjoy!
