How To Cook Sushi Rice

Ingredients Needed

– 2 cups sushi rice
– 2 ½ cups water
– 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
– 1 tablespoon sugar
– 1 teaspoon salt


1. Rinse the sushi rice in a strainer under cold running tap water.
2. Transfer the rinsed sushi rice to a medium pot.
3. Add 2 ½ cups of water to the pot.
4. Place the pot of sushi rice and water on the stovetop and bring to a boil.
5. Once the sushi rice and water have come to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
6. Simmer the sushi rice on low heat for 15 minutes.
7. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the sushi rice sit with the lid covering the pot for an additional 10 minutes.
8. After the 10 minutes of resting time, remove the lid and fluff the sushi rice using a rice paddle or wooden spoon.
9. Transfer the cooked sushi rice to a large bowl.
10. Mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl.
11. Pour the vinegar mixture over the cooked sushi rice and mix in thoroughly with the rice paddle or wooden spoon.
12. Allow the sushi rice to cool to room temperature before using.
13. Enjoy!
