How To Cook Rice The Asian Way

All you need to know about: How To Cook Rice The Asian Way.

Step 1: Selecting the Rice

When it comes to cooking rice the Asian way, you have to be careful which type of rice you choose. There are various types of Asian rice available, including jasmine, sushi, and glutinous rice. Each type of rice has its own distinct flavor and texture, so it’s important to choose the right type for your dish. For example, if you’re making a stir-fry, you’ll want to use a longer grain rice like jasmine, whereas if you’re making sushi, you’ll want to use a sushi-specific rice.

Step 2: Washing the Rice

Once you’ve chosen the rice you want to use, it’s important to wash it before cooking. This will remove any dirt or debris from the rice, as well as help to remove some of the starch. To do this, simply add the rice to a bowl of cold water and swish it around with your hands for a few minutes. Once it’s clean, drain the water and repeat the process with fresh water until the water runs clear.

Step 3: Cooking the Rice

Now that your rice is washed and ready to go, it’s time to actually start cooking. The traditional Asian method of cooking rice is to use a pot or pan with a tight-fitting lid. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the rice by about one inch, and then bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the rice. Stir the rice once and then cover the pot with the lid. Let the rice cook for about 15 minutes, or until all of the water has been absorbed.

Step 4: Fluffing and Serving the Rice

Once the rice is done cooking, turn off the heat and let it sit for a few minutes. This will help the rice to steam and become fluffy. Then, using a fork, fluff the rice and serve it with your favorite Asian dishes. Enjoy!
