How To Cook A Pork Shoulder

Pork shoulder is a great cut of meat to cook when you need to feed a crowd. It’s easy to prepare, and it’s a relatively inexpensive cut. Follow these steps to learn how to cook pork shoulder.

Step 1: Preparing the Pork Shoulder

First, you’ll need to select a pork shoulder that’s around 5-7 pounds. Make sure the pork shoulder is fresh and doesn’t have any visible signs of spoilage.

Once you’ve selected your pork shoulder, you’ll need to trim it of any excess fat. Use a sharp knife to remove the fat and discard it.

Step 2: Seasoning the Pork Shoulder

Now that your pork shoulder has been trimmed, it’s time to season it. You can use a variety of seasonings, such as salt and pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cumin. Be sure to season both sides of the pork shoulder.

Step 3: Cooking the Pork Shoulder

Once your pork shoulder is seasoned, it’s time to start cooking it. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place a roasting pan in the oven and add about a cup of water to the pan. Place the pork shoulder in the roasting pan and cover with aluminum foil.

Bake the pork shoulder for 3-4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches at least 145°F. Make sure to baste the pork shoulder with the juices from the pan every 30 minutes.

Step 4: Finishing the Pork Shoulder

Once your pork shoulder is cooked, it’s time to finish it. Remove the aluminum foil and turn the oven up to 425°F. Place the pork shoulder back in the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and crispy.

Once your pork shoulder is finished cooking, take it out of the oven and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
