How To Cook With Tofu

All you need to know about: How To Cook With Tofu.

Preparing the Tofu

The first step in cooking with tofu is to prepare it. Tofu comes in a variety of textures: silken, soft, firm, and extra firm. Depending on the dish you’re making, you’ll want to use a specific texture. Silken and soft tofu are best for pureeing, blending, and stirring into dishes like smoothies and sauces. Firm and extra firm tofu are best for frying, roasting, grilling, and baking.

To prepare the tofu, remove it from the package and rinse it under cool running water. Place the tofu on a cutting board, and cut it into cubes or slices. If you’re using extra firm tofu, you can press it using a tofu press or wrap it in a dish towel and place it under a heavy object for about 15 minutes. This will help the tofu absorb more flavor and give it a firmer texture.

Marinating the Tofu

Once the tofu is prepared, you can marinate it. To do this, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and any other desired seasonings in a bowl. Add the tofu to the marinade and stir to coat. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes, or overnight for a stronger flavor.

Cooking the Tofu

Once the tofu is marinated, you can cook it. The best way to cook tofu is to bake, fry, or grill it. To bake the tofu, preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the tofu on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

To fry the tofu, heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and fry for 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. To grill the tofu, preheat the grill over medium-high heat. Place the tofu on the grill and cook for 5-8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serving the Tofu

Once the tofu is cooked, it’s ready to be served. Tofu can be served as a main dish or as an addition to salads, stir-fries, soups, and more. It can also be served with a variety of sauces and sides, such as teriyaki sauce, peanut sauce, steamed vegetables, and rice.

Tofu is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes. With the right preparation and cooking techniques, you can make delicious and nutritious meals with tofu.
