How To Cook Risotto

Risotto is the classic Italian dish made with rice and broth that has a creamy texture and wonderful flavor. It is an impressive meal that can be enjoyed as a main dish or side dish. Here is a basic guide to making risotto.


– 1 1/2 cups of arborio rice
– 6 cups of broth (chicken, beef, vegetable, or a combination)
– 1/2 cup of white wine
– 2 tablespoons of butter
– 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 onion, diced
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons of olive oil
– Salt and pepper to taste


1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
2. Add the rice and stir to coat it with the oil. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
3. Add the white wine and stir until it is absorbed by the rice.
4. Begin adding the broth, one cup at a time, stirring until it is absorbed before adding the next cup.
5. Continue adding the broth and stirring until the rice is cooked through, about 20 minutes.
6. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the butter and Parmesan cheese.
7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
8. Serve hot.
