How To Cook Mussles

1 lb. fresh mussels
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons shallot, minced
1/2 cup white wine
1 teaspoon fresh thyme
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces


1. Begin by scrubbing the mussels in cold running water to remove any dirt or debris. Remove the beards from the mussels, if necessary.

2. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic and shallots and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.

3. Pour in the white wine and simmer for 1 minute. Add the thyme, red pepper flakes and lemon juice.

4. Add the mussels to the pot, cover and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5. Uncover the pot and add the butter, stirring until it is melted and incorporated.

6. Cover the pot and cook for an additional 3 minutes, or until the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that have not opened.

7. Serve the mussels in the broth, with a side of crusty bread. Enjoy!
