– 2 cups of water
– 1 tablespoon of butter (optional)
– Salt to taste


1. Begin by bringing a pot of water to a boil on the stovetop.
2. Once boiling, add the buckwheat groats to the pot and stir them in.
3. Let the groats cook for about 10-12 minutes until they are tender.
4. Once finished, turn off the heat and strain the groats in a colander.
5. Return the cooked groats to the pot and add 1 tablespoon of butter and a pinch of salt, if desired.
6. Stir the groats until the butter has melted.
7. Serve the cooked buckwheat groats hot as a side dish or as part of a main dish.
