How to Cook Brats

Brats, also known as bratwurst, are a type of sausage commonly made from pork, veal, or beef. They are a popular dish in Germany and have become popular in the United States as well. Brats are typically grilled or boiled and served with sauerkraut, potatoes, or other side dishes. Here is how to cook brats the traditional way.


For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

– 8 bratwurst sausages
– 2 large onions
– 4 cloves of garlic
– 2 tablespoons of butter
– 2 tablespoons of olive oil
– 2 tablespoons of white wine
– Salt and pepper to taste


1. Begin by prepping the ingredients. Peel and slice the onions into thin strips. Mince the garlic and set aside.

2. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the onions and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Add the bratwurst to the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes, flipping the sausages occasionally to ensure they are cooked through.

4. Add the white wine and season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

5. Serve the brats with sauerkraut, potatoes, or any other side dish of your choice.
