– 1 cup of dry black eyed peas
– 2 cups of water
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 teaspoon of salt
– 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
– Optional: 1 teaspoon of minced garlic or 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder


1. Start off by rinsing the black eyed peas with cold water to remove any dust or debris.

2. Place the black eyed peas into a medium-sized pot and add two cups of water.

3. Heat the pot on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

4. Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and let the peas simmer for 15 minutes.

5. After 15 minutes, add the olive oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic if desired. Stir the ingredients well and let the peas simmer for another 5 minutes.

6. After five minutes, turn off the heat and let the black eyed peas sit for 10 minutes.
